ANSI vs. DSHS Food Handler Course

ANSI stands for American National Standards Institute. Their certification of Food Handler Safety Courses is accepted in most, but not all states. This is a generic food safety course.

DSHS stands for Department of State Health Services, as in Texas Department of State Health Services. Courses like Texas Best Food Services Training offers are approved and licensed by TX DSHS. These courses are specific to the requirements that the State of Texas wants us to teach. The Learn2Serve ANSI and DSHS Food Handler Safety courses are available on this site as well.

We feel that courses that deliver content more orientated to what is expected of us, legally, by the State of Texas and local health departments, is better. However, the choice is up to you.

HB582, passed last year, mandated that local health departments accept ANSI certificates. It goes back to the Denton Fracking issue and the state legislature trying to reign in control from cities and counties. Politics.

But the choice is up to you. You will find both the ANSI and DSHS Food Handler Safety courses on this site.
